Ingredients
  

For the Whipped Topping

  • 1 container frozen whipped topping Thawed

For the Cake or Brownies

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix or fudge brownie mix
  • 3 large eggs Fresh
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

For the Pudding Layer

  • 2 boxes chocolate pudding mix Instant
  • 4 cups cold whole milk

For the Crunch

  • 3 cups chocolate crème sandwich cookies Crushed
  • 3 cups English toffee candy bars Chopped

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Thaw the frozen whipped topping in the refrigerator for about 4 hours or overnight.
  • Prepare the chocolate cake or brownie mix according to package instructions and bake at 350°F for 20-30 minutes.
  • Let the baked cake or brownies cool completely on a wire rack.
  • In a large bowl, combine the chocolate pudding mix with cold milk and whisk until smooth.
  • Chop the chocolate crème sandwich cookies or English toffee candy bars.

Assembly

  • Cut the cooled cake or brownies into 1-inch pieces and layer half in a trifle dish.
  • Top with half of the pudding, half of the chopped cookies/candy bars, and half of the whipped topping. Repeat the layers.
  • Cover the trifle and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Before serving, spread remaining whipped topping and garnish with reserved cookie or cake crumbs.

Notes

For added indulgence, drizzle with chocolate sauce before serving.
