Preparation Steps

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, self-raising flour, and either vanilla extract or orange zest until everything is well blended and smooth.
  • Gradually mix in the milk to achieve a silky batter. It should be slightly thick yet pourable, perfect for frying!
  • In a deep pan, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot, aiming for around 350°F.
  • Using two spoons, carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  • Remove the buñuelos with a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  • Allow the buñuelos to cool slightly before dusting them with powdered sugar or cinnamon for extra flavor.

Notes

Serve warm with a side of chocolate sauce for dipping or fresh fruit preserves for a burst of flavor.
