For the Casserole

  • 8 oz French bread cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup Butter melted
  • 1 cup Brown sugar packed
  • 6 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Milk whole milk recommended
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon divided

For the Topping

  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • Powdered sugar optional for serving

How to Make French Toast Casserole

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F. Butter a 13x9 inch baking pan generously and set it aside.
  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar until it's fully dissolved and smooth. Pour this mixture into the bottom of your buttered baking pan and spread it evenly.
  • Layer the bread cubes atop the brown sugar/butter mixture in the pan.
  • Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in a medium-sized bowl. Pour this creamy custard over the bread cubes. Sprinkle with the remaining teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar.
  • Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Serve with fresh berries or warm maple syrup for an extra treat.
