How to Make Irish Soda Bread

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar until well combined.
  • In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, melted butter, and egg until everything is beautifully blended.
  • Gently pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough begins to form.
  • Place the dough into a cast-iron skillet or baking vessel. Score the top with a cross using a sharp knife.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for about 40 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

Store Irish soda bread wrapped in a towel or a paper bag at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, freeze wrapped tightly in plastic wrap.
