How to Make Irish Soda Bread

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare your baking vessel.
  • Whisk together the dry ingredients in a large bowl: all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, salt, baking soda, and sugar.
  • Mix the wet ingredients in a separate bowl: add buttermilk, melted butter, and the egg, blending until smooth.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients carefully, using floured hands to form the dough into a ball.
  • Transfer the dough to your prepared baking vessel, and score the top with an X.
  • Bake for about 30 to 40 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
