  • 12 oz Fresh Cranberries Choose firm, plump, and deep red berries.
  • 1 cup Zinfandel Wine Substitute with another fruity red wine if desired.
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar Balances the acidity.
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar Adds a deeper flavor profile.

For the Spice Blend

  • 4 whole Whole Cloves Imparts warm notes.
  • 2 sticks Cinnamon Sticks Lends sweet-spicy flavor.
  • 1 tsp Ground Allspice Heightens spice complexity.
  • 1 tbsp Orange Peel Brightens the sauce.

Instructions
 

Making the Sauce

  • In a medium saucepan, blend Zinfandel, granulated sugar, brown sugar, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, ground allspice, and orange peel.
  • Turn the heat to medium-high and stir continuously until the sugars completely dissolve, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer and allow the mixture to cook uncovered for about 15 minutes.
  • Carefully strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl, discarding the solids.
  • Return the strained liquid to the saucepan and add the fresh cranberries. Cook over medium heat for approximately 10 minutes.
  • Once cooked, let the sauce cool to room temperature. Transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate.
