  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda Acts as a leavening agent.
  • 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Dark chocolate chips can be used for a richer taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Using pure vanilla yields the best results.

For the Festive Add-Ins

  • 1 cup Crushed Candy Canes Choose any standard peppermint variety.

Baking Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 325°F (163°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Prepare Candy Canes: Crush the candy canes into 1/4-inch pieces, dividing them into two portions.
  • Cream Butter & Sugars: Mix softened butter with both brown and white sugars until light and fluffy, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients: Add vanilla extract and egg yolks into the creamed mixture, blending until smooth.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: Incorporate flour, baking soda, and salt into the mixture, stirring just until combined.
  • Fold in Add-ins: Gently fold half of the crushed candy canes and chocolate chips into the dough.
  • Scoop Dough: Use a tablespoon to drop rounded scoops of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them apart.
  • Bake Cookies: Bake for 12-15 minutes until the edges are set and centers look slightly underbaked.
  • Add Candy Cane Topping: Sprinkle the remaining crushed candy canes on top after removing from the oven.
  • Cool: Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 3-5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack.

Notes

For an extra indulgent touch, you can drizzle melted chocolate on top of the cookies.
