For the Base

  • 8 oz French bread cut into cubes
  • ½ cup Butter melted
  • 1 cup Brown sugar packed
  • 6 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon divided

For the Toppings

  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • Powdered sugar optional

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Generously butter a 13x9 inch baking pan.
  • Melt ½ cup of butter in a saucepan, stir in 1 cup of packed brown sugar.
  • Pour the butter and brown sugar mixture into the baking pan, then add the bread cubes.
  • In a bowl, whisk together 6 eggs, 2 cups of milk, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes.
  • Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar on top.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For busy mornings, prep the casserole the night before. Garnish with maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream.
