For the Creamy Mixture

  • 2 tablespoons Butter softened
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 cup Whole Milk or half-and-half for thicker consistency
  • 2 tablespoons Flour for thickening
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper

For the Potatoes

  • 3 large Russet Potatoes sliced

For the Cheese

  • 2 cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese shredded

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Scrub the russet potatoes thoroughly under running water.
  • Slice the potatoes into even rounds, about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Mix the heavy cream, whole milk, flour, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper in a bowl until smooth.
  • Coat the bottom of your greased baking dish with softened butter, layer 1/3 of the sliced potatoes followed by 1/3 of the cream mixture. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Uncover and continue to bake for an additional 20 minutes.
  • Sprinkle additional cheddar cheese on top and bake for another 5 minutes until melted.
  • Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

You can mix in different cheeses for variety or add bacon for extra flavor. Reheat in the oven if there are leftovers.
