  • 0.75 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.75 cup light brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups semisweet chocolate chips

How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together 2½ cups of all-purpose flour, ¾ teaspoon of baking soda, and ¾ teaspoon of salt.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of softened unsalted butter with ¾ cup of light brown sugar and ½ cup of granulated sugar, beating until light and fluffy.
  • Add 1 large egg and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract to the mixture, beating until well blended.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing just until combined, then stir in 1½ cups of semisweet chocolate chips.
  • Using a 1½-tablespoon scoop, form dough balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until golden brown, baking one sheet at a time for even cooking.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the pan for 5 to 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Notes

For thicker cookies, chill the dough for about an hour before baking. Optionally, sprinkle sea salt on top before serving.
