Ingredients
  

Casserole Base

  • 1 lb Ground Beef Can substitute with ground turkey or plant-based alternative.
  • 1 medium Onion Diced, can use shallots for milder taste.
  • 2 cans Cream of Mushroom Soup Can substitute with cream of chicken.
  • 1 cup Sour Cream Greek yogurt can be a healthier substitute.

Cheese Layer

  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese Can try Monterey Jack or a cheese blend.

Topping

  • 1 package Frozen Tater Tots Check for gluten-free options if needed.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, brown ground beef and diced onions over medium heat for about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in cream of mushroom soup and sour cream into the beef mixture. Warm through without boiling.
  • Grease a 9x13 inch casserole dish and spread the beef mixture as the base layer.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture.
  • Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until the tater tots are golden-brown.
  • After baking, remove from oven and sprinkle with more cheddar; return to the oven for 5 minutes.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Optional: Garnish with chopped parsley for color and freshness. This casserole can be prepared ahead and stored in the fridge for easy meals.
