For the Crust

  • 1 stick unsalted butter softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar for sweetness
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for structure
  • 1 pinch salt enhances flavors

For the Filling

  • 4 large eggs for richness
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar for sweetness
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt complements lime
  • 2 teaspoons grated lime zest adds flavor
  • 2/3 cup fresh lime juice for zestiness
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice for sweetness
  • 3 tablespoons tequila for margarita essence

For Dusting

  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar for garnish
  • 1 flaky sea salt optional

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly spray an 8x8-inch pan with cooking spray.
  • Mix together the softened butter and powdered sugar in a bowl using an electric mixer until fluffy. Add the flour and a pinch of salt and mix until combined. Press into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes or until set and lightly browned.
  • Whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar in a bowl until combined. Incorporate the lime zest, lime juice, orange juice, and salt. Stir in the tequila.
  • Pour the lime mixture over the partially baked crust. Bake for an additional 20-23 minutes until set.
  • Cool completely at room temperature, then chill in the fridge. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and optional flaky sea salt before cutting into bars.
